HTML5 ad

A banner built with web technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) instead of an image or a GIF.

In detail

An HTML5 ad is a mini web page that displays inside the ad space. Because it is code, the text stays sharp at any screen density, it can be animated precisely, and it usually weighs less than an equivalent animated GIF.

It is delivered as a .zip file with an index.html at the root and its assets (images, fonts). The ad server unzips it and serves it inside an iframe.
